L’abbuffata (The Feast)

A Glimpse on Today’s Italy

Given the success of the movie cycles presented in 2015, 2016 and 2017 and thanks to the fruitful collaboration with the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, the Italian Cultural Institute is pleased to present in 2018 a new cycle, A Glimpse on Today’s Italy, which will include movies produced in the last years which wish to illustrate in a rather hironic manner some of the most pressing issues of contemporary Italy.

l abbuffata 1L’abbuffata (The Feast), directed by Mimmo Calopresti, 2007 (102’)

Everybody dreams about cinema. Three Italian friends from Diamante, a small town in Calabria, decide to start shooting a movie about their native place. Only two roles are missing: the director and the main character. For the first role, they find a director who has been there on holidays for four years. However, for the second role, they don’t have much choice, so they decide to go to Rome to find the perfect actor. After a thorough search, they find a French guy: Gerard Depardieu. To celebrate his participation, they decide to organise a very big party involving all the town’s inhabitants: a real “abbuffata”. Unfortunately, an unexpected event does not allow them to fulfil their dream.

Free entry. Booking essential.
