International day for the elimination of violence against women

stop violence 3The Italian Cultural Institute of Sydney wishes to offer its contribution to raise awareness of a social problem whose echo sadly resounds in international news with increasing frequency: gender-based violence. It does so by presenting on November 25, on the occasion of the International Day for the elimination of violence against Women 2021, a video by the multidisciplinary artist Emilia Persenico.

The video is simply titled November 25, 2021 and is composed of a roundup of more or less well-known male and female characters, who make their sentences public. The genesis of the short film starts from the search for male characters who do not feel diminished by the female empowerment and who therefore who therefore commit themselves personally by stating their name and surname and declaring that they are not violent.

The work then continued with the involvement of women who, in one sentence, underline what is indispensable for them: in short, the freedom to be themselves without being judged. The result is a sort of dialogue between men and women, within a deep space that recalls the rooms of the house.

Emilia Persenico studied at the New Academy of Fine Arts in Milan and then specialized in contemporary tapestry at the Sforzescoemilia persenico Castle School in Milan. She then attended sculpture courses at the studio of the sculptor Gabriela Spector in Mendrisio (CH) and at the workshop of master ceramist Tino Gassa in Castiglione Olona. Over the years she has artistically interpreted the phenomenon of violence against women and sexual abuse of children within the family. The house and the body are the themes of her works that are exhibited in private galleries and public spaces in Italy and in Europe.

November 25, 2021 will be published on the Institute’s social media to coincide with the anniversary, the 25th of November, and will be given prominence for the following 24 hrs. The video will also be available on the Institute’s YouTube channel up to the 2nd of December.
