A collaboration between New Zealand Opera and the Italian Cultural Institute in Sydney
To celebrate UNESCO’s recognition of the practice of Opera Singing in Italy as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and the figure of Lorenzo Da Ponte, a Venetian poet and author who composed 28 librettos for 11 different composers, New Zealand Opera and the Italian Cultural Institute in Sydney, together with the Italian Embassy in Wellington, present a production of W.A. Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro” with Italian surtitles.
Thanks to the collaboration with NZ Opera, the three performances of the famous Italian-language opera, performed on 17, 19, and 21 June 2026, at the St James Theatre in Wellington, will feature double surtitles, in Italian and English.
An opportunity to celebrate our language and culture, also in conjunction with the Festa della Musica, an event that brings together organizations and institutions around the promotion of musical culture every 21st June.
