This is the 1st edition of the International Film Festival called Europa! Europa whose programming intends to satisfy the growing demand of local audience’s cinema from the Old Continent, witnessed by the various national film festivals in different contexts.
The declared purpose of the organizers (Artistic Director T. Caldwell, Executive Festival L. Tamir) is to integrate the offer of films from countries whose production is already the most internationally established (USA, UK, Italy, France, Spain etc.), with that of nations that for various reasons do not find as much space in the programming locally.
The films in the program therefore come from a geographical area that extends from west to east, from north to south across the European continent, with national and international productions and/or co-productions.
The Italian representation could not be missing, with three feature films, three co-productions that testify to the vitality and prestige that the Italian cinema industry enjoys abroad. These are Io Sto Bene (Italy, Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany 2020) by director Donato Rotunno, Europa (Italy, Iraq, Kuwait 2021, in competition) by director Haider Rashid and Il legionario (Italy, France 2021) by director Hleb Papou. The films are all Australian premières.
The Festival, which will be presented simultaneously in Melbourne and Sydney (Cinema Ritz, 45 St Paul Street, Randwick), will run from 4 to 27 February 2022.
