Lavazza Italian Film Festival 2019

2019 marks the 20th anniversary of the Lavazza Italian Film Festival, and as every year the Festival will present in all the major Australian cities the best of contemporary Italian cinema as well as some classics. In Sydney the Festival will be held between the 17th of September and the 16th of October in all the Palace Cinemas of the city.

As in the past, the Festival will present, in collaboration with the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Sydney, a selection of the best calopresticontemporary Italian films with an historical and social content, comedies, romantic films, thrillers and more, and will also include the participation of guests from Italy who will take part in special events and Q&A sessions with the public. This year’s guest of honour will be film director Mimmo Calopresti, thanks to the Controluce association, who will be present at the screening of his latest movie Aspromonte, la terra degli ultimi on the 18th of September.

bertolucciOn the occasion of the recent death of one of the undisputed masters of Italian cinema, Bernardo Bertolucci, which took place in November 2018, the Festival, in collaboration with the Istituto, will also feature a mini-cycle dedicated to the great director, which includes the screening of Bertolucci’s masterpieces Novecento (on the 29th of September) and The Conformist (on the 6th of October). People attending the screening of The Conformist will also be able to watch an interesting interview with Bertolucci which has never been shown in Australia before. The Festival will close with the screening of Ron Howard’s documentary Pavarotti.
