Piano Recital by Alessandro Marangoni
The Italian Cultural Institute in Sydney continues with its series of concerts called Suono Italiano Sydney, a cycle made possible by the collaboration with CIDIM – Italian National Music Committee, an organization founded in 1978 with the aim of contributing to the development and promotion of Italian classical and contemporary music abroad.
The next concert of the series will feature Alessandro Marangoni in a piano recital entitled Rossini & Chopin: un dialogo romantico (Rossini and Chopin: a romantic dialogue). Among the most appreciated Italian pianists, Marangoni will deal with two apparently very different composers, who instead, thanks to the perspective of the musician, appear to be very close. Through a very stimulating and unusual program, Marangoni will eclectically exhibit the unlimited ability of Rossini to produce memorable and playful melodies establishing a dialogue with Fryderich Chopin, composer par excellence of piano works of the Romantic era.

Born in Italy in 1979, Alessandro Marangoni studied piano with Marco Vincenzi, obtaining a diploma with honours and continuing his studies at the Scuola di Musica in Fiesole with Maria Tipo. He graduated with honours in Philosophy at the University of Pavia as a student of the Almo Collegio Borromeo. Alessandro Marangoni burst onto the international concert stage when he played at Teatro alla Scala in Milan as solo pianist during a tribute to the great Italian conductor Victor de Sabata, with Daniel Barenboim. Soon after he was signed as an international recording artist with Naxos. His growing discography has received international critical acclaim for his interpretation and technique that fuelled his meteoric rise on the concert stage in Europe, America and China. He recorded for the first time in history the complete Péchés de vieillesse by Rossini, with 21 first world recordings. As a noted advocate of Italian music, he recorded also Clementi’s Gradus ad Parnassum and Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Piano Concertos, as well as Evangélion (first recording) and Liszt’s Via Crucis. As a chamber musician he has collaborated with some of the most important Italian and international musical personalities and groups. His energy and interest in new music and new technologies and pioneering spirit have led him to perform in cyberspace in avatar form for international audiences of computer games, to form artistic partnerships with artists from other disciplines and to launch a new project, Chromoconcerto, with Pierpaolo Venier.
