The Italian Cultural Institute and The Consulate General of Italy in Sydney in collaboration with Co.As.It. are pleased to present the documentary
Il Toro del Pallonetto – La vera storia di Joe Esposito, directed by Luigi Barletta.
This evocative documentary brings to light the life of Joe Esposito “Il Toro del Pallonetto”, an extraordinary yet overlooked figure in Italian boxing history. His journey unfolds against the backdrop of pivotal moments in the 20th century: from the shadows of Fascism and the Liberation, to the wave of Italian migration and the Soviet invasion of Hungary. Esposito’s story is one of struggle, resilience, and redemption.
Through intimate interviews with his granddaughter, close associates, and celebrated athletes such as Clemente Russo, the film restores the legacy of a man whose name was once clouded by scandal, but whose life ultimately stands as a testament to strength, dignity, and perseverance.
The post-screening Q&A with director Luigi Barletta will offer a unique opportunity to delve deeper into Joe Esposito’s story, not only to explore the man behind the legend, but also to gain insight into the creative process of bringing such powerful and untold stories to the screen.
