Il cuore grande delle ragazze (The Big Heart of Girls)(by Pupi Avati, 2011)
The movie is set in Italy in the thirties. Two families, one peasant and poor (the Vigettis), the other rich and landowners (the Ostis) arrange the marriage between the son of the first and one of the daughters of the second. Carlino Vigetti, the son of the tenant farmers, a not very bright young man, always looking for adventures with the women of the village, and with a curious jasmine breath (a trait perceived only by girls), will have to choose between Maria and Amabile Osti, otherwise destined to remain unmarried: in exchange he will obtain a Guzzi motorcycle and the ten-year renewal of the sharecropping contract for her family. But not everything will go as planned by the parents. When Carlino starts spending time with the girls – one hour every night for a month – he meets Francesca, daughter of Sisto Osti’s second wife, returning from Rome where she is studying, and falls madly in love with her.
Q&A with Federico Solchi, broadcaster at the SBS Radio Italian programme.
