Alessandro Di Virgilio, Dario Berlucchi, Elia Lasorsa
Suono Italiano Sydney 2019. Yearly Music Program of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Sydney
The Italian Cultural Institute in Sydney continues with its series of concerts called Suono Italiano Sydney, a cycle made possible by the collaboration with CIDIM – Italian National Music Committee, an organization founded in 1978 with the aim of contributing to the development and promotion of Italian classical and contemporary music abroad.
The third concert of the series features well-known music trio Accordi Disaccordi, consisting of founding members Alessandro Di Virgilio and Dario Berlucchi on guitar, with Elia Lasorsa on double bass. The basis of their repertoire is original songs played in a unique style combining jazz, swing, blues, and folk influences, along with a taste for film scores, while preserving their underlying Gypsy jazz style, which pays tribute to the sounds of famous guitarist Django Reinhardt.
Accordi Disaccordi is an Italian project, very active both on the national and international scenes. The band is composed by the two founders Alessandro Di Virgilio (on lead guitar) and Dario Berlucchi (on rhythm guitar) and by Elia Lasorsa on doublebass. They’re based on a gipsy jazz repertoire, presenting typical national and international classics from the best 1930s’ music in a modern vein. Following the same gipsy style, they write their own numbers and rearrangements of modern songs, according to a personal interpretation that they themselves like to call “hot Italian swing”, taking constant inspiration from the style of the popular guitarist Django Reinhardt. Formed in 2012, they have already played in more than 500 gigs, with the participation in five different editions of Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia, two Umbria Jazz Festivals in Orvieto, two editions of Antibes Jazz Festival – Jammin’ Juan, five editions of the Turin Jazz Festival, the 2015 and 2016 edition of the Festival Django Reinhardt in Samois-sur-Seine, the Pennabilli Django Festival 2015, the Bentivoglio Manouche Festival 2016 in Bologna and the Saint Petersburg and Moscow Jazz Festivals in 2014, 2015 and 2016. In 2018 they went on an international tour, playing in the USA, Turkey and Greece as well as France, Germany, England and Russia.
In short seven years, Accordi Disaccordi have managed to pass from street busking to large international stages, gaining credibility and conquering insiders alike, receiving great feedback both by critics and professionals who indicate them as young promise of Italian and European swing. In the summer of 2017 the participation in the Umbria Jazz Summer Festival 2017, Antibes Jazz Festival – Jammin’ Juan 2017 and more than 50 summer gigs went together with their last fourth album called Accordi Disaccordi, composed by only original songs. With this album they prove they are not only excellent musicians and performers, but also artists capable of absorbing a specific music culture and making great original tracks from it. During the last seven years, they have collected many live and also recordings collaborations with artists like Florin Niculescu (violin), Adrien Moignard (lead guitar), Gonzalo Bergara (lead guitar), Giacomo Smith (clarinet), Emanuele Cisi (saxophone), Diego Borotti (saxophone), Jérémie Arranger (doublebass) and Matt Holborn (violin).
