The Europa! Europa Film Festival returns for its 5th edition, presenting a vibrant celebration of European cinema across Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Hobart and Auckland. From 19 February to 19 March, the festival brings 43 films from 22 European countries, showcasing a rich and diverse selection of contemporary European filmmaking.
This year’s program highlights a strong Italian presence – thanks to the support of our Institute — with the Australian and New Zealand premiere of Primavera (2025) by Damiano Michieletto, alongside four films included in the extensive retrospective dedicated to master filmmaker Michelangelo Antonioni (screening from 5 February to 23 April), which offers audiences the opportunity to see all of his most important works on the big screen.

Set in early 18th-century Venice, this rousing Baroque drama unfolds within the secluded orphanage Ospedale della Pietà, where a young violinist named Cecilia discovers her extraordinary musical gift. When the orphanage hires the ambitious composer Antonio Vivaldi as music instructor, Cecilia’s life changes forever as she is encouraged to break free from the restrictive expectations placed upon her.
The debut feature from acclaimed opera director Damiano Michieletto, Primavera is a visually stunning and emotionally powerful film, praised for its lush cinematography, exquisite production design, and captivating score.
