La scomparsa di Patò (Patò‘s Disappearance)

A Glimpse on Today’s Italy

Given the success of the movie cycles presented in 2015, 2016 and 2017 and thanks to the fruitful collaboration with the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, the Italian Cultural Institute is pleased to present in 2018 a new cycle, A Glimpse on Today’s Italy, which will include movies produced in the last years which wish to illustrate in a rather hironic manner some of the most pressing issues of contemporary Italy.

scomparsa 2La scomparsa di Patò (Patò’s Disappearance), directed by Rocco Mortelliti, 2010 (90’)

It is 1890, Easter weekend. Two investigators look into the disappearance of Antonio Patò, a quiet accountant who vanished after his performance as Judas at the town’s annual Passion Play. After a long investigation, and going through the depositions of his wife, his colleagues, priests, politicians, doctors, prostitutes and religious maniacs, the two investigators get to the conclusion that the vanishing had been organized from Patò himself just to get away with his lover Rachele. Based on the historical novel by Andrea Camilleri.
