Lecture/reading by Claudio Pozzani
23rd Week of the Italian Language in the World
Among the events that the Italian Cultural Institute is dedicating in 2023 to the 23rd Week of the Italian Language in the World, the conference “Parole spalancate”: A journey through writing, books and cultural events stands out. During the conference Claudio Pozzani, through his experience and daily practice as author, event organizer and reader, will accompany us on an exciting journey into the world of poetry, fiction, cultural production, publishing, in the year in which his city, Genoa, was named Capitale del Libro (Capital of Book).
Creator and director of the “Parole spalancate” International Poetry Festival for almost 30 years, Pozzani has met hundreds of authors of different languages and cultures, collecting emotions, memories and anecdotes. As an author, his poems, that have been translated into over ten languages, have led him to travel the world, dealing with different situations and audiences. During the meeting, which will be halfway between conference and reading, Pozzani will try to give food for thought on contemporary society and the role of poetry, art and culture.
Poet, novelist and musician, Claudio Pozzani was born in Genoa in 1961. His poetic activity takes place mainly abroad, where he regularly participates in the most important international events. His poems have been translated and published in over 10 languages. In 1995 he founded and is still the director of the Genoa International Poetry Festival “Parole spalancate”, considered the largest Italian poetry event (www.parolespalancate.it), and has organized exhibitions in Europe and Asia. In 2020 film director Fabio Giovinazzo made the film L’anima nel ventre based on his poems. An anthology of his poems translated into Arabic has just been published in Egypt. In 2023 he published the novels Kate et moi (La rumeur libre, France) and Confessioni di un misantropo (The Ship of Theseus, Italy).
