Vivacissimo 2017. Yearly music program of the Italian Cultural Institute in Sydney
The Italian Cultural Institute is proud to introduce the third concert of the Vivacissimo 2017 series with pianist Alberto Firrincieli, who will perform music by Schumann, Brahms and Rubinstein.
Alberto Firrincieli is an Italian pianist, harpsichord player, composer and scholar. He is currently full-time lecturer of the Department of Music Performance at the Assumption University of Thailand. He established the IKA – International Keyboard Academy in Thailand, and he is the artistic director of the Bangkok International Piano Festival. For several years he has concentrated his research on the Phenomenology and the Socratic Method applied to music. He has dedicated himself to the study of music pedagogy, proposing a healthy approach to music practice, against the very popular routine based on a mere reading-of-the-notes and on mechanical repetitions without any real understanding of the music. He is regularly invited as guest speaker and performer by international institutions (Italy, Czech Republic, Ireland, Spain, Thailand, Cambodia, China, Taiwan, Australia) to hold recitals, conferences, masterclasses, workshops and to present his scientific contributions at international conferences and symposiums. He started to play the piano when he was eight. He studied with Sebastiano Cannizzo at the “Vincenzo Bellini” Conservatory in Caltanissetta (Sicily) and graduated at the age of twenty. Then he started to dedicate himself to the study of ancient keyboard instruments, studying organ with Enrico Viccardi and graduating in Harpsichord with Maria Pia Jacoboni. Meanwhile he studied Composition with Giorgio Tosi and Electronic Music with Francesco Giomi and Marco Biscarini at the “Arrigo Boito” Conservatory in Parma, where he graduated. He continued his education, graduating in Musicology in the University of Pavia with a dissertation about Carlo Antonio Marino – an Italian Baroque composer – and his music. He also studied Harpsichord with Francesco Baroni, and for four years attended the course “Ars et Labor”, an advanced Piano and Chamber Music Course, with Christa Bützberger and Marina Rossi in Vicenza (Italy). During these studies he attended masterclasses with Enrico Baiano, Bob van Asperen, Michele Barchi and Emilia Fadini.
