Cinema Italia 2022 – Multi-ethnic Italy: the new Italians
EVENT CANCELLED
The Multi-ethnic Italy: the new Italians film series, which represents a continuation of the fruitful collaboration of the Italian Cultural Institute with Palace Cinemas, and which includes a series of movies whose central topic is the phenomenon of migration to Italy, ends with the screening of the movie Tigers by Ronnie Sandahl.
The movie will be introduced by Antonella Beconi, Convenor for Italian at the Centre of Continuing Education, University of Sydney, who will also moderate the Q&A session at the end of the screening.
Tigers (Ronnie Sandahl, 2020, 116’)
The seductive, high-stakes industry of professional global sport is at the heart of Tigers, an enthralling true story of a young Swedish football prodigy from director Ronnie Sandhal, the screenwriter of Borg/McEnroe. Martin Bengtsson (The Bridge‘s Erik Enge, in a searing breakout performance) is considered Sweden’s most promising football talent since Zlatan Ibrahimović. At sixteen, his lifelong dream comes true: he is bought by the prestigious Italian club Inter Milan. It’s the chance of a lifetime – but – comes with high expectations and pressure, and Martin soon begins to question whether it’s actually the life he yearned for. Based on Bengtsson’s memoir In The Shadows of San Siro, Tigers lifts the lid on the gilded cage inhabited by top tier sportspeople, a rollercoaster world where everything, and everyone, has a price tag.
Q&A with Federico Solchi, SBS Audio & Language Content Producer / Broadcaster, and Gianluca Alimeni, Associate Lecturer of Italian at the Department of Media, Communications, Creative Arts, Languages & Literature of the Macquarie University.
