A Glimpse on Today’s Italy

Given the success of the movie cycles presented in 2015, 2016 and 2017 and thanks to the fruitful collaboration with the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, the Italian Cultural Institute is pleased to present in 2018 a new cycle, A Glimpse on Today’s Italy, which will include movies produced in the last years which wish to illustrate in a rather hironic manner some of the most pressing issues of contemporary Italy.

Thursday, 1 March 2018 (official opening):

Vinodentro, directed by Ferdinando Vicentini Orgnani, 2013, 92’.
Starring Vincenzo Amato and Giovanna Mezzogiorno

vinodentro 2Vinodentro is a 2013 neo-noir film written and directed by Ferdinando Vicentini Orgnani and starring Vincenzo Amato and Giovanna Mezzogiorno. It is based on the novel Vino dentro by Fabio Marcotto. It all started with the first wine sip Giovanni Cuttin had in his life. A Marzemino, a wine mentioned by Lorenzo da Ponte in his libretto for Mozart's Don Giovanni. Since then, the shy clerk becomes the bank director, a lady-killer and the most revered wine expert in Italy. But soon he will be charged for his wife's murder. Being grilled by Inspector Sanfelice, Giovanni reflects on the last 3 years of his life, dominated by an only mad passion: wine. Gradually the investigation becomes more and more caught between the boundaries of reality and its dreamlike counterpart. What if Giovanni, like Faust, met a diabolic force that made his life very special, only to settle the score later?
