Generazione 1000 Euro (The 1000 Euro Generation)

A Glimpse on Today’s Italy

Given the success of the movie cycles presented in 2015, 2016 and 2017 and thanks to the fruitful collaboration with the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, the Italian Cultural Institute is pleased to present in 2018 a new cycle, A Glimpse on Today’s Italy, which will include movies produced in the last years which wish to illustrate in a rather hironic manner some of the most pressing issues of contemporary Italy.

generazione 1000 euro 2 Generazione 1000 Euro (The 1000 Euro Generation), directed by Massimo Venier, 2009 (101’)

In this entertaining and witty romantic comedy, the hero faces the same dilemma as many Italian young professionals today: how to get by with a salary of just 1000 Euros per month? Matteo (Alessandro Tiberi) is a 30-year-old college graduate with a mathematics degree working in the marketing department of a telecommunications company. When he learns that his company is getting ready to restructure his department, he knows he will be fired. However, his life is going to be changed by the arrival in his life of two women, a blond and a brunette. The blond is Angelica (Carolina Crescentini), new Assistant Marketing Director and his new boss, who takes a shine to him and has him flying off to make presentations with her. The brunette is Beatrice (Valentina Lodovini), a new flatmate, hoping to become a Greek teacher. Angelica dangles a posting with her in Barcelona, Beatrice is simply Beatrice. Will Matteo figure out what he wants – and decide before opportunity passes him by?
