Concert by Duo Gianluca Littera (harmonica) and Fabio Gorlier (piano)

The Italian Cultural Institute continues with the series of concerts of Italian Sound Sydney, a cycle made possible thanks to the collaboration with CIDIM – Italian National Music Committee, an organization founded in 1978 with the aim of contributing to the development and promotion of music abroad Italian cultured, classical and contemporary.

The second concert of the series will feature the participation of the duo Gianluca Littera and Fabio Gorlier which will present a concert that proposes not only original repertoire written for Harmonica and Pianoforte, but thanks to the musical versatility of the harmonica player Gianluca Littera and the pianist Fabio Gorlier, a part of the concert includes music with pieces from the jazz tradition that will allow us to offer a broad vision of a transversal instrument between the musical genres which is the harmonica a bocca.
A complete musical meeting composed of music taken from the original repertoire for Harmonica and Piano as well as ideas for jazz improvisations.

gianluca litteraAfter attaining the Viola Certificate “magna cun laude” in 1985, Gianluca Littera discovered the chromatic harmonica to which he has devoted himself entirely, becoming one of the very few soloists in the World today to perform classical and jazz music with this instrument.
His repertoire contains only original symphonic and chamber-music pieces including the Concerto para Harmonica by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Suite Anglaise for the Harmonica and Orchestra by Darius Milhaud, and other works by composers such as Gordon Jacob, Robert Farnon, Vauglian Williams, William Walton, Luciano Chailly, James Moody, Graham Wliettam and Alan Hovaliness.
Gianluca Littera is a regular guest at important international shows and musical events such as: the Kremerata Baltica, the Santa Cecilia National Academy, the Verona Arena Orchestra, the National Litliuanian Orchestra, the Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo (Brazil), the Italian Swiss Orchestra, the Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederiisterreicli (Austria), the Orquesta Sinfónica de Bilbao (Spain), the Kremlin String Orchestra (Russia), the National Estoniail Orchestra (Estonia), the Orchestre Regional de Cannes Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur (France), the Symplionic Orchestra of Acapulco (Mexico), the OFUNAM Orchestra (Mexico), the Symphonic Orchestra of Castilla y Leon (Spain), the Regional Tuscany Orchestra, the Bolzano Haydn Orchestra, the Symphonic Grand Canary Orchestra (Spain), The Virtuosi Italiani. . .
He has collaborated on many occasions with the Santa Cecelia Orchestra of the National Academy in Rome: both at concerts and in recording projects with Maestro M.W. Chung, including the lnauguration Concert of the New Auditorium in Rome “La Cavea” dedicated to Cinema Music (2003), with a programme of compositions arranged and conducted by the Oscar award winner Louis Bacalov.
He gave a World Premier performance with the Academy Orchestra in 2010 of the composition written for him by the Oscar award winner Maestro Ennio Morricone for the Harmonica and Orchestra “Immobile 2” conducted by the composer himself. He performs with the Kremerata Baltica Orchestra of the violinist Gidon Kremer, with whom he has performed both in Europe and at the Locklieiiaus Festival in Austi ia (2011). In 2012 lic perforrnrd at the Vienna Musikverem with the Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederosterreicli conducted by Maestro Andrea Posada. His performance of Divertiinento for harmonica and strings (in the transcription for the string quartet) by Gordon Jacob, with the Scala String Quartet, was selected by the Asolo Music Festival for inclusion in the CD launched on occasion of the 30 Year Jubilee of the Festival, as token of the many collaborations that have made the Venetian Festival famous. He collaborates with the Brazilian composer and conductor Gil Jardim in projects for Brazilian music which have included the production of a CD of original compositions and arrangements for the Harmonica and Orchestra. In the world of Jazz, he works with artists of the calibre of Ute Lemper, Ivan Lins, Hector Infanzon , Eugenio Toussaint Trio . . . His latest CD under the Stradivarius label includes pieces for the Harmonica and Orchestra by Whettam, Hovaness, Tauski. .. some of which are Absoluta World Premiers in the recording.

gettyimages 1009024246 1024x1024Fabio Gorlier studied piano at the Musical Institute of Alba under the guidance of Valter Protto, perfected his technique at the Conservatory of Alessandria and graduated from the Conservatory of Turin. Meanwhile, he approached jazz. He attended many courses about jazz piano and jazz harmony at the Centro Jazz in Turin and joined many seminars such as the International Seminars of Siena, Arquato Jazz and Nuoro Jazz. Also, he studied with some of the greatest names of the Italian jazz, like Enrico Rava and Paolo Fresu.
Furthermore, he graduated in Performing Arts from Turin University, spending also some months in France, where he attended many courses at the department of Musicology at the Francois Rabelais University of Tours. He has been going through a remarkable concerts activity, and despite his being into jazz, he plays classical music and modern music too. He took part in in any Italians festivals such as Torino Jazz Festival, Time in Jazz of Berchidda, MiTo, Dolomiti Ski Jazz, Time in Sassari, Europa Cantat, Piacenza Jazz Fest, Nuoro Jazz Festival, VCl2eZia JaZ2 Festival, Avigliana Jazz Festival, Fiorenza Jazz Festival, Expo 2015, UnoJazz Sanremo, Zazzarazzali Festival, and he also performed in Scotland, Ireland, France, Turkey, Croatia, Switzerland, Austria, Ecuador and China. He played with many great musicians like Billy Cobham, Furio Di Castri, Andy Sheppard, Diane Schuur, Maria Pia De Vito, Javier Girotto, Terell Stafford, Gianluca Littera, Gabriele Mirabassi, Nicolas Folnier, Tino Tracanna, Marco Tamburini, Roberto Rossi, Roberto Gatto, Giovanni Falzone, Denise King, Diana Torto, Gianni Basso, Dino Piana, Gianni Cazzola, Tullio De Piscopo, Attilio Ranchi. logo cidim bassa
