Fernando Sor Project (online)

sorSuono Italiano Sydney 2020 (online)

The Italian Cultural Institute of Sydney, in collaboration with CIDIM, the Italian body responsible for the enhancement of Italian musicians abroad, is pleased to present a second musical event which is part of the Suono Italiano 2020 online project, which is implementing the digitalization of the IIC cultural offer, made necessary by the restrictions due to the COVID19 pandemic. It is the SOR Project, created by the internationally renowned guitarist Giulio Tampalini and promoted by CIDIM in collaboration with music magazine Seicorde. For its realization, 20 of the best contemporary Italian guitarists perform the "20 Studios" by Catalan composer Fernando Sor, who lived between the 18th and 19th centuries and became famous in Paris where, according to experts, at that time his fame was second only to that of Gioachino Rossini.

As in the previous initiative dedicated to French composer Pierre Rode (already available on tampalinithe Institute's website), the project is divided into four parts, each containing 5 studies. The 20 studies are performed by the following interpreters, who represent the best expressions of the Italian guitar school, are renowned all over the world and teach in Conservatories of Music both in Italy and abroad. Their names are Luigi Attademo, Aniello Desiderio, Paolo Pegoraro, Massimo Delle Cese, Giampaolo Baldini, Fernando Lepri, Renato Samuelli, Carlo Marchione, Oscar Ghiglia, Alberto Mesirca, Arturo Tallini, Giulio Tampalini, Flavio Cucchi, Andrea Dieci, Emanuele Segre, Andrea De Vitis, Claudio Marcotulli, Filomena Moretti, Christian Saggese and Lucio Matarazzo.

The links to listen to the 20 pieces are as follow:

Each video is enriched by a synthetic presentation in Italian and English and allows the user to select each of the 5 studies or move to all four parts of the project. Project SOR, published in Italy starting on May 8, has already been accessed by 38,000 people who have listened to the complete works, with almost 80,000 views.
