Fellini Retrospective: Roma

Celebration for the 100th anniversary of Federico Fellini’s birth

The sixth movie presented within the Fellini Retrospective organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in collaboration with Randwick Ritz Cinema on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great master of Italian cinema is Roma (1972).

The retrospective, organised by the Ritz Cinema, immediately found the enthusiastic participation of the IIC who has engaged the expertise of Christian Pazzaglia to open the series and introduce six of the eight titles listed in the program. The public will be invited to interact with Pazzaglia at the end of the screening through Q&A sessions.

romaRoma (1972)

Cast: Peter Gonzales Falcon, Fiona Florence, Pia De Doses, Marne Maitland

Plot: The movie is a semi-autobiographical comedy-drama film depicting Federico Fellini’s move from his native Rimini to Rome as a youth. It is a homage to the city, shown in a series of loosely connected episodes set during both Rome’s past and present. The plot is minimal, and the only “character” to develop significantly is Rome herself. Peter Gonzales plays the young Fellini, and the film features mainly newcomers in the cast.

The movie won two Silver Ribbons in 1973 for Best Production Design and Best Costume Design.
