Fellini Retrospective: I vitelloni

Celebration for the 100th anniversary of Federico Fellini’s birth

The Fellini Retrospective organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in collaboration with Randwick Ritz Cinema on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great master of Italian cinema continues with the screening of I vitelloni
(1953).

The retrospective, organised by the Ritz Cinema, immediately found the enthusiastic participation of the IIC who has engaged the expertise of Christian Pazzaglia to open the series and introduce some of the titles listed in the program. The public will be invited to interact with Pazzaglia at the end of the screening through Q&A sessions.

vitelloni 2I vitelloni (1953)

Cast: Franco Interlenghi, Alberto Sordi, Franco Fabrizi, Leopoldo Trieste

Plot: Five young men dream of success as they drift lazily through life in a small Italian village. Fausto (Franco Fabrizi), the group's leader, is a womanizer; Riccardo craves fame; Alberto (Alberto Sordi) is a hopeless dreamer; Moraldo (Franco Interlenghi) fantasizes about life in the city; and Leopoldo (Leopoldo Trieste) is an aspiring playwright. As Fausto chases a string of women, to the horror of his pregnant wife, the other four blunder their way from one uneventful experience to the next. Screened in competition at the 14th Venice International Film Festival, the film was awarded the Silver Lion by Italian poet Eugenio Montale, who headed the jury.
