Italian language between sequential art, illustrated literature and graphic novels

Webinar with Gianluca Alimeni (Macquarie University)

20th Week of the Italian Language in the World

Italian between words and images: graffiti, illustrations, comics

zerocalcareEach year the Italian language is celebrated worldwide during the Week of the Italian Language in the World, an initiative of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation which in 2020 has reached its 20th edition. This year's theme is Italian between words and images: graffiti, illustrations, comics.

For the occasion, Dott. Gianluca Alimeni, Associate Lecturer of Italian at Macquarie University in Sydney, will present a speech entitled Italian language between sequential art, illustrated literature and graphic novels. During the presentation, the artistic form of comics will be examined, which has by now undergone many changes. An overview of its sometimes surprising history will be offered, treating its main evolutions, not only from a typological point of view (who are the readers?), but also from a linguistic, alimenipedagogical and educational point of view.

Born and raised in Florence, Gianluca Alimeni completed his secondary education in Australia after moving here in 1981. He gained a first class BA Honours degree and an MA Honours by research at the University of Wollongong, where he worked until 2002. His main interests lie with the Italian Renaissance and the 13th-15th century Novellistica (short stories). He has also worked as a Research Assistant on an Australian Research Council funded project on Italian Novels Database from 1800 to today. Most recently he has developed an interest for computer-assisted language teaching and is developing the WebCT component for Introductory Italian.

The webinar will be held online via Zoom and the interested parties can request the link to participate to: gianluca.alimeni@mq.edu.au

The webinar will be held IN ITALIAN.
