tutto a posto posterSeven Beauties: The Movies by Lina Wertmüller

The retrospective Seven Beauties, dedicated to acclaimed Italian filmmaker Lina Wertmüller and organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in collaboration with the Randwick Ritz Cinema and Cinema Reborn, with the support of the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage, continues with the screening of the movie Tutto a posto e niente in ordine (All Screwed Up) (1974).

Irreverent, rule-breaking and impossible to define, Italian filmmaker Lina Wertmüller broke ground as the first woman to be nominated for an Oscar as Best Director in 1977. An unabashed feminist and non-conformist, her films take the absurdities of society and turn them on their heads – the results being sometimes witty, sometimes shocking, always political. The series celebrates her work with seven of her best films.

The movie will be introduced by Danielle McGrane, an entertainment reporter/producer and critic specialising in music, film and TV who regularly appears on ABC 702 Sydney’s Richard Glover critics show talking film and music.

Cast: Luigi Diberti, Lina Polito, Sara Rapisarda, Giuliana Calandra

In this satire, workers from southern Italy relocate to Milan and adjust to life in the city, where they reside in a house together. Among the group are Gigi (Luigi Diberti) and Carletto (Nino Bignamini), two country boys who are overwhelmed by urban living. While some of the transplants find work at a hectic restaurant, others are employed at a grim slaughterhouse. When some of the migrant workers are unable to make ends meet, they resort to theft, making their situations even worse.
