15 documentaries celebrate Italian cinema behind the scenes

From 14th June to 25th July 2021 in free streaming

The project is developed and produced by Audiovisiva, a platform that collects the best documentaries on Italian culture. The 15 films in the collection are subtitled and are available free of charge to public from the 14th of June until the 25th of July 2021, upon registration and subject to availability, through the IIC’s website.

100 admissions are available for each Institute subject to availability. Once registered, the 15 documentaries of the collection will remain available for viewing until 25th July 2021.

REBOOT 1 - IL CINEMA ITALIANO RIPARTE immagine statica reboot

A series of ten short videos dedicated to the professions of cinema and the resilience of the Italian film industry. Based on a series of "backstage", it collects a series of testimonies on the professions of cinema. The protagonists are: P.F. Favino, D. Ciprì, M. Perri, F. Lovino, P. Valsecchi, M. Cantini Parrini, A. Foglietta, M. Lombardo, D. Luchetti and N. Guagnianone.

REBOOT 2 - IL NUOVO ABBRACCIO DEL CINEMA ITALIANO DALLA PANDEMIA AL SET

Two clips lasting 4 minutes each with excerpts from interviews with protagonists of Italian cinema on the theme of the pandemic and the impact it has had on their work. The protagonists are: F. Cima, S. Castellitto, P. Cortellesi, L. Cavani, C. Donadio, C. Giovannesi, E. Leo, R. Milani, S. Serraiocco, P. Valsecchi and C. Verdone.

A review of five recent Italian films made available free of charge on the MyMoviesLive platform thanks to the collaboration with the distributor True Colors.

The films are: Fortuna by Nicolangelo Gelormini (2020, 108'); Il vizio della speranza by Edoardo De Angelis (2018, 100’); Sembra mio figlio by Costanza Quatriglio (2018, 103’); I moschettieri del re by Giovanni Veronesi (2018, 109’); Il sindaco del rione Sanità by Mario Martone (2019, 118’).

  • Enrico Piaggio, an Italian dream (2019), with Alessio Boni and Violante Placido, dedicated to the life of the Tuscan entrepreneur.
  • Luisa Spagnoli (2016), with Luisa Ranieri, a two-part TV miniseries based on the biography of the founder of Perugina.

a) David di Donatello 2021 Awards - To celebrate the Day of Italian Cinema in the World, established on 11 December 2019 by the Chamber of Deputies, the MAECI, in agreement with the Academy of Italian Cinema and ANICA, proposes the screening of the five titles selected in the "Best Short Film" category of the 2021 David di Donatello Awards.

b) Author's Shorts - An initiative developed by the Directorate General for the Country System, in partnership with ANICA, to promote a new narrative of Italy through the talent of its creatives. Six original shorts, made by six different producers, subtitled in English: Noi italiani parliamo con le mani by Carlo Poggioli; Dolente bellezza by Roberto Recchioni; Guardami così by Edoardo De Angelis; Rigoletto a Circo Massimo by Enrico Parenti; Azione by Manlio Castagna; Il sole e le altre stelle by Caterina Carone.

c) From book to screen - Three documentaries, subtitled in English and made in collaboration with the Turin Book Fair, lasting about 20 minutes, illustrate the process of making television series based on successful books (Commissario Montalbano by Andrea Camilleri, Gomorrah by Roberto Saviano and L'amica geniale by Elena Ferrante).

Through interviews with authors, producers, directors and the director of the Turin Book Fair, and writer Nicola Lagioia, winner of the 2015 Strega Prize, From Book to Screen tells, describes features necessary for the transformation of a book into a series or a film.
