Every year the Italian language is celebrated worldwide during the Week of Italian Language in the World, an initiative of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation which in 2021 has reached its 21st edition. This year’s theme is Dante, l’italiano, since 2021 falls on the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri’s death, which is celebrated all over the world, including Australia, with a myriad of cultural events and initiatives.

Within the initiatives realized for this annual event, the Embassy of Italy in Canberra, the Italian Cultural Institute in Sydney and Co.As.It. Sydney have organized the 6th National Conference of Italian Teachers in Australia, which which will be held online due to the ongoing restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The symposium, which will open with a welcome address by the Ambassador of Italy, H.E. Francesca Tardioli, will see the participation of academics and experts in the sector of Italian language and culture who will speak both from Italy and from other Australian States. During the afternoon, two workshops will also be held dedicated to Italian teachers from primary and secondary schools from all over Australia.

The lectures will be given by:

  • Prof. Rodney Lokaj (Università degli Studi di Enna “Kore”)
  • Prof. John Kinder (University of Western Australia)
  • Dr Joshua Brown (ANU, Canberra)
  • Dott. Paolo Totaro AM (former journalist and former president of the Ethnic Affairs Commission of NSW)
  • Bianca Bonino (theatre performer)
  • Dr Angelo Gioé (Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Melbourne

The workshops will be held by Sara Villella (Co.As.It. of Sydney) and Laura Bava (Italian teacher in WA).
