Another Italy: Stories, relationships and emotions in Italian cinema at the beginning of the millennium

Italian Contemporary Cinema at the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre

2022 marks the eighth consecutive year of fruitful collaboration between the Italian Cultural Institute and the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, the cultural hub of Liverpool City Council.

A collaboration that is expressed with the organization of film series that have contemporary Italian production as their focus.

This year, the series is entitled Another Italy: Stories, relationships and emotions in Italian cinema at the beginning of the millennium with a clear reference to the now consolidated choice of proposing a series of feature films that can give a vision of our country at the dawn of second decade of this third millennium.

The 2022 program includes:

1. Friday 1 April: Kryptonite! by Ivan Cotroneo
2. Friday 6 May: The interval by Leonardo Di Costanzo
3. Friday 3 June: Balancing act by Ivano Di Matteo
4. Friday 1 July: The first beautiful thing by Paolo Virzì
5. Friday 5 August: Heavenly Body by Alice Rohrwacher
6. Friday 7 October: A special day by Francesca Comencini
7. Friday 4th November: The complexity of happiness by Gianni Zanasi

c. palmieriThe movies will be presented by Cristiana Palmieri, Federico Spoletti and Angela Prudenzi.

Dr Cristiana Palmieri is a senior executive in medical education. She is also a research affiliate at the School of Languages and Cultures, University of Sydney. Cristiana is passionate about cinema and collaborates as a film critic and movie journalist with FRED Film Radio, a web radio based in London that covers films festivals and cinema globally.

Mr. Federico Spoletti is a film industry maverick – an entrepreneur, a journalist, and a film lover whof. spoletti has been active in the film industry for the past 20 years. He is co-founder and Managing Director of SUB-TI, an international film subtitling company based in London. In 2011, Mr. Spoletti launched FRED Film Radio - The Festival Insider.

Ms. Angela Prudenzi is an Italian film journalist, writer, producer, event organizer, and educator. She is a member of the National Union of Italian Film Critics and of the selection committee of the Venice International Film Festival. She is a regular collaborator of distinguished publications such as “Rivista del Cinematografo”, "Les Cahiers du Cinema", "Cinecritica" and "Close Up”. a. prudenziFormer lecturer at Department of Humanities of the Rome University La Sapienza.

FRED is a web-based radio network which boasts 29 channels, broadcasting in 25 languages, with thematic channels dedicated to specific cinema content such as film education and the film industry.

We are therefore pleased, together with the management of the CPAC and the Liverpool Council, to be able to invite the public again to a cinema hall, even if we recommend that the public carefully follow the instructions for the reservation and the entrance to the theater that will be publicly released by the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre
