Photo exhibition HANDS by Monia Merlo

merlo 2One of the goal pursued by the Italian Cultural Institute of Sydney is circulating throughout the territory included in its own cultural jurisdiction (NSW, ACT, QLD and NT) of the events that are initially conceived and organized for the public of the capital city of New South Wales. It is obvious that this operation is not always possible and there are several factors that hinder its implementation. However as far as the Hands photographic exhibition by the Italian artist Monia Merlo, the goal can be considered fully achieved.

Hands was proposed by the IIC in 2019 to the selection committee of the Head On International Photo Festival and was included among those that were exhibited. The exhibition, 13 high-definition shots depicting the hands of some models, was set up on the premises of the Institute, received positive comments from experts and was attended by a large audience.

The Institute is today pleased to announce that Monia Merlo’s works will also be circulated in Queensland with two galleries that will exhibit them from May 30 to July 2, 2022.

From May 30 to June 10 Hands will be exhibited at the Stanthorpe International Club in Stanthorpe (Club Road, Stanthorpe QLD 4380), thanks to the interest of the Mayor Vic Pennisi and the setting up by Franco and Morwenna Arcidiacono. The event is part of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the town in Queensland, the landing place of many Italian compatriots who settled there since the early decades of the twentieth century and found social redemption through hard work in the sugar cane crops. The opening and closing dates of the exhibition have also been chosen to coincide with 2nd June, the Italian Republic Day.

From Stanthorpe, the exhibition will continue to Brisbane where from 24 June to 2 July it will be set up by the local Dante Alighieri Society, at the premises of Casa Italia (26 Gray Street, New Farm) thanks to the interest of the President Dr. Claire Kennedy and the committee she chairs.
