felicita posterAnother Italy: Stories, relationships and emotions in Italian cinema at the beginning of the millennium

2022 marks the eighth consecutive year of fruitful collaboration between the Italian Cultural Institute and the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, the cultural hub of Liverpool City Council. A collaboration that is expressed with the organization of film series that have contemporary Italian production as their focus.

This year, the series is entitled Another Italy: Stories, relationships and emotions in Italian cinema at the beginning of the millennium with a clear reference to the now consolidated choice of proposing a series of feature films that can give a vision of our country at the dawn of second decade of this third millennium.

Each film will be in Italian and will have English subtitles. At the start of each film the audience will be able to enjoy a short intro by our expert panel, composed of Cristiana Palmieri, Federico Spoletti and Angela Prudenzi.

La felicità è un sistema complesso (The complexity of happiness) (Gianni Zanasi, 2015, 117’)

Cast: Valerio Mastandrea, Giuseppe Battiston, Hadas Yaronfelicita interna

Enrico Giusti, as a job, convinces entrepreneurs and young heirs of industrial complexes who are disinterested in the fate of the company they manage to sell to others to avoid bankruptcy and to minimize losses and layoffs. This is at least what he believes, because his employers, Carlo Bernini and his father, actually seem interested in monetizing financial transactions in the transfer of ownership of companies. In particular, two casual encounters, the first with Achinoam, his brother’s ex-girlfriend, a young Israeli who attempts suicide once she is left at her home by her brother who cannot tell her the truth, and subsequently with two teenagers (Philip, aged 18 and Camilla, aged 13), the only heirs of the family estate together with their uncle Umberto, who were orphaned of their parents in a car accident in a lake who operated as entrepreneurs of a multinational group with thousands of employees, will make him rethink the role he is playing in his life.
