Six strings through Italy

One of the objectives of the Italian Cultural Institute in Sydney is to promote and enhance young Italian talents who are entering the international scene or want to consolidate their presence abroad.

This is the case of the young classical guitarist Lorenzo Bernardi, who between February 20 and March 5, 2023 will perform on an Australian tour entitled Six strings through Italy: an itinerary among the treasures of Italian music from the Baroque to the present day, which will visit various locations in NSW, Victoria and South Australia, also thanks to the support of the Institute.

The tour will kick off on February 20th in Adelaide (at Urrbrae House in collaboration with the local Italian Consulate) and will continue on February 22nd in Wollongong (Clifton School of Arts), on the 25th of February in Sydney at The Church theatre in Alexandria (in collaboration with the Sydney Guitar Society and Guitar Passion), 26th and 28th in Melbourne (at Newman College Chapel of Holy Spirit and at Co.As.It), 3rd March in Toowomba (at Concert House) and will end on 5th March in Brisbane (at Ipswich Civic Centre).

The program will include music by Domenico Scarlatti, Mauro Giuliani, Niccolò Paganini, Pietro Mascagni, Francisco Tárrega, Giuseppe Verdi, Agustín Barrios Mangoré and Bruno Battisti D'Amario.

Born in Trento in 1994, Lorenzo Bernardi graduated from the F. A Bonporti Conservatory of Trento in 2015. He subsequentlyl. bernardi 1 continued his studies under the guidance of Emanuele Buono at the Luigi Canepa Conservatory of Sassari, obtaining the second level academic diploma with a soloist address with full marks. Thanks to a scholarship offered by the European community, he also further specialized at the Manuel Castillo Conservatory in Seville, Spain, under the guidance of internationally renowned teacher and guitarist Francisco Bernier. As a soloist, but also as a member of chamber and orchestra groups, he has performed in important festivals in Italy, Spain, France, Hungary, Finland, Denmark, Argentina, Chile, United States, Costa Rica, Panama, Bahrain, Japan , South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and India.

He has performed in prestigious halls such as the Real Alcazar of Seville, Victoria Memorial Hall of Calcutta (India), Vietnam National Academy Recital Hall (Vietnam), Chulalongkorn Music Hall (Thailand), Teatro Principal de Castellón (Spain), Nave Cultural UnCuyo ( Mendoza - Argentina), the Cabildo Histórico (Córdoba - Argentina) and the Teatro Ristori in Verona. He is often invited as a juror in international competitions and has held masterclasses for important academic institutions. He has collaborated on numerous tours with the Vietnamese guitarist Thu Le and with the Genoese mandolinist Carlo Aonzo, one of the most internationally known interpreters of the instrument. In 2019 the DaVinci label publishes Agustín Barrios Mangoré - al Estilo Antiguo, which aims to research the influences of European musical forms, in the Opera of the Paraguayan composer. In 2020 an artistic collaboration begins with the Italian violinist Saverio Gabrielli which in 2021 leads the duo to release the first album "Due Italiani a Vienna", with music by Mauro Giuliani, Niccolò Paganini and a world premiere recording of the "Grande Duo" by Louis Spohr. Lorenzo Bernardi is an endorser of Savarez Guitar Strings and Altamira Guitars.
