Historical documentary about the partisan Resistance in Bologna
On the occasion of Italy’s Liberation Day on April 25th, the Società Dante Alighieri of Sydney, the National Italian Australian Women’s Association (N.I.A.W.A.), and the Italian Cultural Institute are pleased to present The Forgotten Front, a documentary realised in 2020 by Lorenzo K. Stanzani and Paolo Soglia about the Allied war on the Gothic line between 1943 and 1945, the German occupation of the city of Bologna, and the fight of resistance and liberation carried out by partisans and the population that supported them.
The event will take place at the Institute on Thursday, April 27th 2023 at 6 pm. The screening will be introduced by Cristiana Palmieri from the University of Sydney, and followed by a Q&A session with the authors of the documentary, Lorenzo K. Stanzani and Paolo Soglia, both attending remotely from Bologna.
The documentary is in Italian with English subtitles.
Cristiana Palmieri is a Research Affiliate within the Department of Italian Studies, School of Languages and Cultures of the University of Sydney, where she completed her PhD in Adult Education and Teaching in 2015. Her research interests are in Adult Education and Sociolinguistics, in particular adult second language learning, motivation and identity. She is also Head of Member Learning and Development at The Royal Australasian College of Physicians, where she leads research projects in medical education and digital health.
Paolo Soglia is a freelance journalist who for many years was at the head of an information cooperative and the director of Città del Capo Radio Metropolitana. He is currently involved in publishing and media economics, and collaborates with both local and national newspapers.
Lorenzo K. Stanzani has been telling stories through documentaries for more than twenty years. He is known for Emilia rossa (2010), Quanto resta della notte? (2012) and The Forgotten Front: La Resistenza a Bologna (2020).
