Award winning Italian pianist Vittorio Mezza joins Australian saxophonist Mark Ginsburg to create a unique collection of works reflecting their musical and personal influences. Their debut album which is being launched at the festival, was recorded in Rome, Italy, with post production taking place in Sydney, Australia, this album showcases the intimacy and excitement of acoustic, electronic instruments and voices delivered with virtuosic interaction. The Convergence project was born as a result of a chance meeting in the USA in 2009. Although living on different continents, Mark and Vittorio have maintained contact and shared musical material and ideas leading to the development and recording of the Convergence project.

Grounded in classical piano from a young age, Vittorio Mezza was soon drawn into the world of improvisation, completing studies at the S. Cecilia Conservatory of Music. In addition to performing activities, he continued his jazz development with a focus on advanced jazz education studying under world-renowned artists including Dave Liebman, Franco D'Andrea, John Taylor and many more.

Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Mark Ginsburg performed on the jazz scene with many local artists. After migrating to Australia in the early 80s, Mark continued to develop his musical explorations completing a Masters of Music degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. The Mark Ginsburg Band recorded Generations, their debut album, which was nominated for Best 2009 Jazz Album category in the AIR Awards in Australia. Mark has performed at numerous music festivals including the Wangaratta Jazz Festival (Australia), The National Arts Festival (South Africa) and The Bellingen Global Carnival (Australia). Mark co-wrote and recorded the score for feature length documentary, A Common Purpose, winner of the Audience Award at the 2011 Sydney Film Festival.

The Mezza / Ginsburg Ensemble appearance will also feature Bel a cappella, a Sydney based chorus directed by the dynamic Anthony Pasquill. The Convergence album features Bel a cappella on a number of its most popular tracks.
