The Italian Cultural Institute Sydney is delighted to present internationally acclaimed pianist Christian Leotta in a recital exploring the remarkable evolution of the piano sonata through the music of Domenico Scarlatti, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Franz Schubert.
Spanning more than a century of musical innovation, the programme traces the transformation of the sonata from Scarlatti’s elegant miniatures to Beethoven’s groundbreaking masterpieces and Schubert’s poetic lyricism. Featuring Beethoven’s celebrated “Waldstein” Sonata and his final Piano Sonata in C minor, Op. 111, this recital offers a compelling journey through some of the greatest works ever written for the piano.
Renowned for his interpretations of the Classical and Romantic repertoire, Christian Leotta rose to international prominence at the age of 22 after performing the complete cycle of Beethoven’s 32 Piano Sonatas. Since then, he has appeared in more than 50 countries and performed with leading orchestras in many of the world’s most prestigious concert halls.
