Join us for the upcoming Eatalian Talk with Paolo Stracchi, Senior Lecturer in Architectural Technology at the University of Sydney, for a fascinating exploration of the life, work and international legacy of Australian architect Harry Seidler.
Drawing on his experience co-curating Migrating Modernism: The Architecture of Harry Seidler in Venice and Sydney, Stracchi will reflect on Seidler’s remarkable journey from Vienna to Sydney, including his studies with Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer and Josef Albers.
Through Seidler’s architecture, his collaborations with figures such as Pier Luigi Nervi and Marcel Breuer, and his lifelong engagement with art alongside Penelope Seidler, the talk explores how modernist ideas travelled across cultures and generations—from Australia to Acapulco, Paris, Hong Kong and Seidler’s native Vienna.
About the Speaker
Paolo Stracchi is Senior Lecturer in Architectural Technology at the University of Sydney’s School of Architecture, Design and Planning. His research focuses on the history and theory of modern and contemporary construction. His work has brought renewed attention to Pier Luigi Nervi’s Australian projects, particularly his collaboration with Harry Seidler, as well as to the construction history of the Sydney Opera House.
Most recently, Stracchi co-curated Migrating Modernism: The Architecture of Harry Seidler, presented at SMAC in Venice as a collateral event of the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale.
