Piano recital by Giulio Biddau

The Italian Cultural Institute in Sydney is pleased to host a recital by pianist Giulio Biddau, who will present a programme of music by Scarlatti, Brahms and Ravel.

biddau 1Giulio Biddau was born in Cagliari (Sardinia) in 1985. He began studying piano at the Cagliari Conservatorium of Music, where he has recently been appointed professor. After graduating, he moved to Paris where he studied with Jean-Marc Luisada, Dominique Merlet and Aldo Ciccolini, brilliantly completing the École Normale “Alfred Cortot”. He then joined Sergio Perticaroli’s class at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome where he obtained a Diploma with high distinction both in piano and chamber music. He then moved to Berlin, finishing his studies at the “Hanns Eisler” Hochschule für Musik with Prof. Fabio Bidini.

He is Prize Winner of the Casagrande Competition in Terni, “Les Nuits Pianistiques – Lauréats SPEDIDAM” in Aix-en-Provence, “José Iturbi” in Valencia and Tbilisi International Piano Competition. In 2012 he was semi-finalist at the Sydney International Piano Competition.

He has performed all over the world, in important venues such as the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, the Salle Cortot in Paris, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Grand Theatre de Provence in Aix-en-Provence, the Palau de la Musica en Valencia, the CCK in Buenos Aires, the Oriental Art Center in Shanghai and others. He was invited by important festivals such as the Festival Pablo Casals, the Festival Radio France and the Salzbourg Festival.

He has played with several orchestras: the Orchestra of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, the Orchestre National de Montpellier, the Orchestre Les Siècles, the Tbilisi Symphony Orchestra and the Konzerthaus Orchester Berlin, collaborating with conductors such as Lawrence Foster, François-Xavier Roth, Tan Dun, Damian Iorio, Silvia Massarelli etc.

He has appeared on several foreign radio and television station such as Japanese NHK, France Musique, Rai Radio 3 and ABC Classic Australia.

He has recorded music by Gabriel Fauré for the French Label Aparté and by Respighi for “Evidence”.

In 2018 he received a special award from Argentinian Critics Societies, and he regularly performs in South America.
