XXVI WEEK OF ITALIAN LANGUAGE IN THE WORLD – Opera Aria Recital in Italian with young soprano Alice Gavagnin and young tenor Jordan Sarkis

As part of the XXVI Week of Italian Language in the World 2026 – “A Brilliant Language: Imagining, Designing and Creating in Italian” – and the theme Italian and the Musical Tradition, young soprano Alice Gavagnin from the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome and young tenor Jordan Sarkis from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music will perform a recital of opera arias in Italian at the Italian Cultural Institute.

The programme will include arias by W. A. Mozart, G. Rossini, G. Puccini, G. Verdi and G. Donizetti.

During the evening, Maestro Michelangelo Galeati, cellist and conductor, and Professor Roberto Giuliani, musicologist and pianist and former Director of the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia, will briefly introduce the pieces.

Alice Gavagnin, opera singer – Rome, Italy

Born on 2 June 2004, Alice began her musical journey at the age of nine with the study
of the flute. Since then, she has continuously cultivated her passion for music alongside her
academic education. After attending a scientific high school, she began her studies in Law at
Sapienza University of Rome, while continuing her musical training.
She holds a First-Level Academic Diploma in Opera Singing from the Conservatorio di Musica
Santa Cecilia in Rome, where she is currently attending the second year of the Biennio in Opera
Singing under the guidance of Maestro Emanuela Salucci.
Her concert experience includes the Opera Out of Opera project, with performances at Palazzo
Chigi and in the Sala Accademica of the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia. Together with her teacher,
she has also performed at the Embassy of Kazakhstan and the Egyptian Academy.
As part of the Aria Fresca project, she performed the role of Dorabella in W. A. Mozart’s Così
fan tutte in a concert in Piazza Navona. She has also performed with the Rithmosinfonica
Orchestra of the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia in an Erasmus concert.
She has been awarded First Prize in Singing and First Prize in Chamber Music at the Città di
Tarquinia International Music Competition, as well as Second Prize at the Sette Note Romane
Competition.

 

Jordan Sarkis

Is an Australian-born tenor currently in his third year of Bachelor of Music (Performance) in Classical Voice at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he studies with acclaimed tenor Andrew Goodwin.

Jordan most recently was given the opportunity to cover the role of “Danny” in Opera Australia’s production of The Drover’s Wife. His operatic experience also includes performing Alexis in Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Sorcerer with Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Sydney. As part of the production, he toured Yass and Bundanoon. He has also appeared as Slender in Rockdale Opera Company’s production of Otto Nicolai’s The Merry Wives of Windsor, further developing his stagecraft and experience within Sydney’s operatic community. In concert and sacred repertoire, Jordan has performed as the tenor soloist in Mozart’s Missa Brevis in D major at St Paul’s Anglican Church, Burwood. He has also sung with the St Paul’s College Chapel Choir in performances of Handel’s Messiah, contributing to the work’s choruses and gaining further experience in large-scale sacred and oratorio repertoire.
