Giornata del contemporaneo

amaci logoThe 18th Giornata del Contemporaneo will be held on Saturday, 8 October. The event is promoted by AMACI and involves contemporary art museums, foundations, public and private institutions, galleries, studios and artist spaces located in Italy and beyond. In fact, as already from the 2019 edition, with the collaboration of the General Directorate for Public and Cultural Diplomacy of MAECI – Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the event will also extend abroad, from Saturday 8 October to Friday 14 October 2022, through the diplomatic-consular ministerial network (i.e. Embassies, Consulates and Italian Cultural Institutes, which this year celebrate their 100 years, since the opening of the first Institute in Prague in 1922.

The event benefits again this year from the support of the Directorate General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture, the collaboration of the Directorate General for the Promotion of the ‘Sistema Italia’ of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the patronage of ICOM Italy.

After the restrictions due to the pandemic, this year the event will maintain a hybrid format – both physical and digital – to encourage and enhance potential participation with both online and offline offerings. This year’s edition will revolve around the theme of ecology,maxxi bound up with that of sustainability: “Global urgencies that confront us with the need to rethink the contemporary art system through a renewed awareness and a more widespread sensitivity”, explains the organization.

The guiding image of the event, Icarus (2021-2022), was created by Giorgio Andreotta Calò (Venice, 1979) at the instigation of the Directors of the associated museums. The artists involved in the past years have been Michelangelo Pistoletto (2006), Maurizio Cattelan (2007), Paola Pivi (2008), Luigi Ontani (2009), Stefano Arienti (2010), Giulio Paolini (2011), Francesco Vezzoli (2012), Marzia Migliora (2013), Adrian Paci (2014), Alfredo Pirri (2015), Emilio Isgrò (2016), Liliana Moro (2017), Marcello Maloberti (2018), Eva Marisaldi (2019) and Armin Linke (2021).

Artists, museums, foundations, cultural associations, galleries or other realities promoting contemporary art can register to participate in the Giornata del Contemporaneo and open freely their spaces to the public on Saturday 8 October can register at the following link:
