“Hanging by a Thread”,A puppet show full of simplicity and poetry that engages, moves, and entertains

DiFMarionette by Mirco Bruzzesi Gino

The Italian Cultural Institute in Sydney, in collaboration with Co.As.It Sydney, is pleased to present “Hanging by a Thread”, by the Di Filippo Marionette company.

A puppet show full of simplicity and poetry that engages, moves, and entertains.
The puppets are alive—alive in the sense that they can convey emotions.
The show is wordless, and each character tells its own story through movement and music, interacting with the manipul-actors, who reveal the magic of the marionette.

Perfect for all ages: “It enchants children and makes adults dream.”
“Time is life, and life dwells in the heart.”

ABOUT THE COMPANY

The Di Filippo Marionette company was founded in 2012 by Remo Di Filippo. In 2014, Rhoda Lopez joined the company, bringing her theatrical and musical expertise and professionalism.
In just six years, the company has performed in some of the most prestigious puppet theatres and festivals in Europe and worldwide.

The company has developed a distinctive and recognizable style, highly appreciated by both audiences and critics. The manipulators do not merely bring the puppets to life—they interact directly with them, breaking the traditional distance between puppeteer and puppet. For this reason, they can be called Manipul-Actors.

The work of these two puppeteers is rooted in a strong theatrical background, as both worked professionally in theatre before transitioning to puppetry.

Remo Di Filippo graduated from DAMS in Bologna with a thesis on Leopoldo Fregoli and 20th-century theatre. He studied and worked in Commedia dell’Arte, explored physical theatre by studying Decroux and Jacques Lecoq, and through Lecoq, he discovered the neutral mask and the larval mask, eventually delving into the art of clowning.

Rhoda Lopez spent a year with Rotary International in Belgium before earning a degree in Musical Theatre from WAAPA (Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts). She has worked as an actress on stage and television. Additionally, her experience includes roles as a singer, dancer, puppeteer, presenter, theatre manager in various Australian theatres, performing arts tutor, and puppet maker.
