PUCCINI CENTENNIAL NIGHT an evening of music and gastronomy celebrating the anniversary of giacomo puccini’s death

7-Dicembre-Puccin

2024 marks the centenary of the death of the great Tuscan composer Giacomo Puccini, one of the most acclaimed Italian musicians of all time in the field of Opera. Such works as La bohème (1896), Tosca (1900), Madama Butterfly (1904) and Turandot (1926, completed by Franco Alfano), are still today among the most performed in the world and have brought absolute prestige to the Italian musical movement abroad. Furthermore, Puccini’s passion for gastronomy and convivial events is well known. Even after the years of economic hardship – when cooking his own meals was a necessity – Puccini continued to cultivate the art of cooking, putting himself to work especially for the noisy group of friends from Torre del Lago (LU), an accolade of artists and writers he would meet at the tavern La capanna di Giovanni dalle bande nere which in his honor was immediately renamed Club La Bohème. The Italian Cultural Institute of Sydney celebrates the grandeur of the composer from Lucca by organizing an evening of music and food and wine in tune with Giacomo Puccini art and life of. A themed dinner which will see local artists performing some of the most famous Puccini arias during the evening. The event will be held in what over the years has become a meeting point par excellence for Sydney Opera lovers who like to pair good music and good food: Alfredo Authentic Italian Restaurant, owned by Alfredo Bovier and located at 16 Bulletin Place, Sydney (Circular Quay). Bovier was the creator of the famous “Opera nights” during which the dinner with an authentic Italian menu was followed by performances by local artists – some of whom have since become international stars – who performed pieces by Verdi and Rossini, Leoncavallo, Puccini himself and by many others.

The four courses menu will offer traditional Tuscan recipes. The cost for the event, which includes dinner and opera show, is set at AU$150, drinks not included.
