sddefault

The Italian Cultural Institute is proud to be a cultural partner of the 25th St Ali Italian Film Festival, co-presenting two remarkable films: Gloria!, by Margherita Vicario and “Parthenope” by Paolo Sorrentino. Running from September 18 to October 16, the festival will take place at various venues across Sydney, offering audiences the finest in contemporary and classic Italian cinema.

Opening Night: “Gloria!” | Wed 18 September, 7.30pm Palace Norton Street

The festival opens with the vibrant film Gloria!, written and directed by the talented Italian actress and singer Margherita Vicario. This lively, music-infused story follows an overlooked maid in a Venetian school for orphan girls, whose hidden talent sparks upheaval in 18th century Italy. We are thrilled to announce that Margherita Vicario will be in Sydney to join in the opening-night celebrations.

Special Presentation: “Parthenope” by Paolo Sorrentino | Fri 27 Sept, 7.15pm Palace Moore Park

The other film presentation supported by the Institute is Parthenope, the centrepiece of the festival, directed by Academy Award-winner Paolo Sorrentino. This visually stunning and emotionally resonant film tells the story of a Neapolitan woman named after the mythical siren who once gave her name to the city of Naples. With breathtaking cinematography by Daria D’Antonio and exquisite fashion design by Saint Laurent, Parthenope is set to be an unforgettable cinematic experience.

Founded in 2000 by Antonio Zeccola, the Italian Film Festival is a testament to Australia’s rich migrant success stories. Zeccola, who established Australia’s only national boutique cinema network, recognized the need for a festival dedicated to Italian cinema. For over two decades, the festival has continued to showcase the very best of contemporary and classic Italian cinema. Last year, it attracted over 84,000 attendees nationwide, celebrating the Italian language and culture.
